About me

Hi there! I’m Jon, a freelance full-stack developer based in the beautiful city of Cardiff, UK.

I build beautiful, functional, and—most importantly—usable websites. I believe in doing things the right way, and that accessibility should be considered at every stage during the design and build process. I love to sweat the details, and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty if it makes the end result better for everyone.

I also believe in giving back, actively contributing to open-source, and endeavouring—where possible—to release at least one small part of every project I work on as an open source component.

I’ve been doing this almost 20 years—twelve as a freelancer—and in that time I’ve been lucky enough to work with a wonderful smorgasbord of brands and companies, including SSE Telecoms, Orange, GoCompare, Jaguar-Landrover, Kia UK, Unite Students, the Royal Navy, the Imperial War Museum, Drinkaware, ONE, Oxfam, Breast Cancer Care, and the United Nations.

Skills + Technologies

I’m primarily a front-end specialist, and my key skills revolve around HTML, CSS (via SASS), Javascript, Typescript, Elm, and SVG. Away from the browser, I’ve spent over a decade working on Ruby/Rails projects, and before that I spent several years working with PHP.

It goes without saying that I’m Mac based, but any Linux-based system is good as far as I’m concerned.

Away from the computer…

When I’m not hacking at projects, I’m a maker, photographer, and occasional musician. I love exploring the world and seeing how it works, take great delight in good food, and enjoy fast, winding roads more than perhaps is good for me.

One of these days, I might even get around to releasing this EP I’ve been working on for far too long…
